When are the worship services?
Times of the services can be found here on the website. Our Sunday worship service is typically at 10:30 am. This is when most people come – frequently arriving just a few minutes prior.
Can I just walk in?
Yes! Walk, creep or crawl .... anyone is welcome.
Can I park at the church?
Yes, we have a large parking lot. A few spots along the main entrance are reserved for people with handicaps, seniors and parents with small children. It may get full on a Sunday so arriving ten minutes early is wise. If it is full, you may park on nearby streets but do respect parking signs, driveways etc. We like to be seen as good neighbours.
Can I bring my kids?
Yes! Children are a must. We have a parallel Children’s Church that operates during service. Children ages 4-11 may go to children's church or may choose to remain with their parents in regular worship. During our service, children are invited to meet at the front of the sanctuary for Discovery Time with our Minister and Solomon T. Fox (a.k.a Foxy.)
I use a wheelchair? Is the building accessible?
Yes – we have an elevator allowing access to all floors of our church. One of our greeters will assist operating the elevator if required.
What should I wear?
Clothes preferably. There is really no dress code. Some people feel more comfortable dressing smartly for church, others prefer to come along in jeans and t-shirts.
How long will the service be?
It depends on what kind of service it is. Usually it is just over an hour, sometimes a little longer when there is a baptism, communion, special days etc.
Can I leave if I want to?
You may get up and leave at any point if you wish.
Do I need to bring anything?
No. We do take an offering for the work of the church here and beyond. You may choose if and how much you wish to contribute. It is optional but also very much appreciated.
I don’t know if I am Christian – does that matter?
No – all are welcome, whatever stage you are at in your thoughts about Christianity.
What happens when I walk in?
On Sunday morning, our greeters will give you a smile, a welcoming hello, and a paper bulletin. If you have any questions, they are good people to ask for help. You can seat yourself wherever you wish.
Where do I sit?
The pews of the church are for you to choose from – sit where you wish; there are no reservations or special seats.
Will anyone speak to me?
Hopefully yes! We do try and give a friendly hello to everyone that comes. And, early in the service, we exchange greetings with our neighbours in the pews as we share the peace of Christ. Here we shake hands with those around us – each time saying ‘peace be with you’. Some people leave their seats to shake hands with friends farther afield in the church. You are welcome to stay in your place, or move around, as you prefer.
How will I know when to stand up and sit down?
A good tip is to watch what others do and also to listen to the lay assist (i.e. announcer) for the day.
How do I know when we are to say something?
Typically, it will be projected in bold text on the overhead projector. The lay assist (announcer) or Minister may also provide a verbal reminder.
What if I don’t know the hymns?
Don’t worry – we have a wide range of hymns and no one will know them all. Try and join in as it goes along. No one will mind if you don’t sing. We are frequently learning new hymns and the music director helps us with those.
Can my kids join in?
Yes! Early in the service, our minister will invite all children that wish to to come forward to have a conversation with Foxy. Then they can go to the Children’s Church which is held in the same building and on the same floor as the worship service. Children are welcome to stay sitting with you during the service if you prefer.
Will the sermon be long and boring?
We hope not …. We intend not. We hope you will find it timely, relevant and thought-provoking. It is often accompanied with visuals – still and moving.
Why are some ignoring the offering plate?
Giving is always optional; there are many reasons why someone may not be able to give on a particular day.
People who attend regularly may have signed up to have their offering directly contributed from their bank account through the PAR program.
Should I participate in communion?
Everyone is invited to communion. The Minister will provide clear guidance and directions at the time to help you understand when and what to do. If you prefer to stay in your seat, that’s fine.
How will I know when the service has ended?
The minister will have given a blessing, then will walk down the central aisle towards the door. People will often sit down briefly before getting up to leave.
What happens after the service?
Most Sundays, except in summer, there will be a time for coffee and fellowship downstairs. You are most welcome to join us; it is a good opportunity to meet some of the people. We try to make sure all are welcome, so you won’t be left standing on your own!
What should I do with the bulletin?
Take it home and read the notices and forthcoming events or leave it in the pew and we will recycle it.
I may come regularly – should I tell someone?
It’s always good for us to know if someone is new, and especially if they feel they would like to come regularly. Let our Minister know as you leave the church or call our church office. But you can just keep coming along if you prefer.
